Selecting Irises to Order

Date: January 21, 2018
Location:

Holy Cross Lutheran Church

11425 Marsh Lane

Dallas Texas

We just received word that Bobbie Mason, our presenter for the scheduled program this Sunday on succulents, is down with the flu.

Instead, Bonnie Nichols will do a program answering common questions asked when selecting irises to order.  The catalogs have begun to appear and many suppliers are already accepting orders, so this program is very timely.

Among the questions she will cover are:
How do I pick which rhizomes I want to add to my iris collection?
    When should I anticipate bloom?
How tall with the stalks get?
What type of iris am I buying?
Should I anticipate the iris to rebloom?  If so, when?
$55 for a new rhizome.  YIKES!  Why do they cost so much?
She will also field other questions you may have.

Come hear Mike Reed tell us what we need to do with our iris beds to prepare them for their task of producing beautiful blooms in spring.

Do I need to fertilize? When and with what?

Do I need to stake stems?

Do I need to weed before bloom?

Do I divide now?

Bring any questions you have.

Entering Blooms in an Iris Show

Date: March 18, 2018
Location:

Holy Cross Lutheran Church

Iris shows are usually in April in our area.

You grow irises.

You would like to enter them but have no idea what to do, or you have entered in the past and didn't do well.

Bonnie Nichols will take us on a trip from selecting a stalk, grooming it, transporting it to the show, staging it in the show container, making out the entry tag, and getting it to the show tables.  She will give tips to help maximize your chances for winning ribbons.

ANYONE WHO GROWS IRIS CAN ENTER A SHOW. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A CLUB MEMBER TO ENTER.

It is easy and fun and very addictive.
